At Epworth Hospital, Mr Girish Nair Somasekaran recently performed an L5/S1 ALIF with posterior decompression and fixation to address pathology affecting the lower lumbar spine. Actifuse Shape® was selected as the bone graft substitute to support the fusion.
Actifuse Shape® in Lumbar Fusion
Manufactured by Baxter and distributed in Australia by Australian Allografts, Actifuse Shape® is a silicate-substituted calcium phosphate graft designed to provide an osteoconductive scaffold that supports bone formation throughout the healing process.
The procedure combined spinal stabilisation with decompression, with the aim of restoring function and creating an optimal environment for fusion at the lumbosacral junction.
